The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office and the Northwest Drug Task Force are providing people a chance to dispose of unused medications in an effort to limit  access to potentially dangerous drugs.

A drop-off day on Saturday is being held in conjunction with the Montana Department of Justice’s Operation Medicine Cabinet and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s national Take-Back initiative.

Expired or unwanted medications can be dropped off at the Flathead City-County Health Department at 1035 First Ave. W., Kalispell, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Disposal locations also will be available at Polson City Hall and at Frank’s Drug at 1401 Minnesota Ave. in Libby.

People are encouraged to remove or black out any personal information on any containers brought in for disposal. Needles, radioactive drugs and non-pharmaceutical waste will not be accepted.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Montana ranks third in the nation for teen abuse of prescription pain relievers.
