The Jewel Basin Road on Flathead National Forest will be closed for resurfacing beginning Monday, Sept. 27.

Winter access on the Jewel Basin Road should not be affected.

Resurfacing work will resume in the spring and the road will be closed at least through Memorial Day 2011.

According to Swan Lake District Ranger Rich Kehr, “We appreciate everyone’s patience as we resurface the Jewel Basin Road.  We recognize it may be an inconvenience, although we anticipate the public will be pleased with the final product.”

The project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Schlegel and Sons Construction Inc. of Kalispell was awarded the contract for $245,000.

For additional information, contact the Swan Lake Ranger District at 837-7500 or visit www.fs.fed.us.r1/flathead.

Elsewhere, the first 11 miles of the West-side Hungry Horse Reservoir Road (Forest Road 895), already is closed from Hungry Horse Dam to Lid Creek Campground for repaving.
