Malby ties for 5th at PGA event

MISSOULA - Ryan Malby, the head professional at Village Greens Golf Course, finished in a tie for fifth place at the Pacific Northwest PGA Professional Championship on Thursday at Canyon River Golf Course.

Malby shot a 1-under 71 on the final day for a 209. He finished three shots off the pace.

Malby carded 69s the first two days. He earned $2,350 in the 54-hole event.

Jeff Coston, the head pro at Semiahmoo Golf Resort in Blaine, Wash., also finished with a 71, but took first place with his 206 total. Coston shot 66 and 69 the first two days.

Coston has won this event eight times.

Malby is one of eight golfers from this event to advance to the 44th National PGA Championship in Hershey, Penn., next June 26-29.

Roger Wallace, Polson Bay Golf Course, finished in a 3-way tie for 46th, 70-75-80-225; Tom Clary, Big Mountain, tied five others for 49th, 77-74-75-226; and Jess Roper, Village Greens, finished in a 4-way tie for 56th, 75-75-78-228.
