Coltin Weber, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound senior linebacker at Montana Western, has been named a scholar athlete by the Montana Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.

This marks the 14th year scholar athletes have been given awards.

Weber, a former all-state outside linebacker at Flathead High School, was one of seven Montana college football players honored. Weber has a 3.15 grade-point average.

Six high school players were also named scholar athletes by the Montana Chapter.

Nominations were solicited from Montana's five high school football classifications, the five Frontier Conference schools and Montana and Montana State.

The criteria was academic ability, football prowess and school/community leadership activities. A chapter committe selects the winners.

More than 20 high schools turned in nominees. Those individuals had to have earned all-state/all-conference honors, hold a GPA of 3.0 or better and have participated in community/school activities.

Five other individuals will receive awards for their contributions to football in Montana. They are: Rick Nordahl, assistant coach at Beaverhead High School; the late Gary Ekegren, former head coach at Missoula Big Sky High School; Bill Lamberty, MSU sports information director; Dave Guffey, Montana sports information director; and Harold Olson, a football official from Billings.

The awards banquet will be held for all winners on April 16 at the Red Lion Colonial Hotel in Helena.
