Braves, Bravettes post dual wins in track

For the first time this season, the Flathead track teams heard the gun go off.

The Braves and Bravettes came away with 23 total first-place finishes out of 34 events and swept team wins in a dual meet with Great Falls at Legends Stadium on Saturday.

Junior Michael Managhan was the day's top performer, winning three individual events - 100, 200, 400 - and running on the 1,600 relay team. Teammate John Collins swept the hurdles and helped the long relay team to victory also.

Zach Perrin qualified for the state meet after winning the 1,600 in 4:32 and Connor Thomas earned an automatic bid to state also, winning the shot put with 53-11.

"It's fun to win, but it's fun to watch kids compete," Flathead boys head coach Dan Hodge said.

"We haven't had time trials yet. This was our time trials today."

For the girls, Tess Brenneman won the 200 and qualified for state in the long jump with 16-8 1/2. She also ran on both winning relay teams.

Brianna Patyk won the high jump and qualified with 5-1.

"Some good early season marks, better than we expected," Flathead girls head coach Kirtlye Lohof said.

Dionicio Cantu won high jump and took second in the long and triple jumps; Tanner Thiel won the javelin and Jon Griffith won discus.

Jaclyn Rauthe won the 100 and ran on both winning relay teams. Kwyn Johnson won the long hurdles and triple jump.

Megan Klingensmith won the 400; Sierra Maxwell won the 3,200; Dani Davis was first in the short hurdles; and Cera Lau won the javelin.

Flathead is hosting the Class A Invitational on Tuesday starting at 1 p.m.
