Softball: Wolfpack, Bravettes lose twice

GREAT FALLS - The Glacier Wolfpack had a big day with the bats on Saturday.

Unfortunately, the CMR Rustlers and Great Falls High Bison had even better days. CMR downed visiting Glacier 19-9 and Great Falls High defeated the Wolfpack 4-1 in nonconference softball action.

Baylee Quay had a home run against CMR and Brittany Franklin added a double and five RBI.

But the Rustlers had 16 hits, including three home runs and three doubles.

"CMR hits the ball. They are fast, they play tough defense and they have probably the best shortstop slapper in the state in that Lowry girl (Alex)," said Glacier coach Joel Bemis.

"We hung in there. We scored eight runs and we found ways to get on base. But they hit the ball. They hit holes and there just wasn't a whole lot we could do," he said.

The second game was better for the Wolfpack, Bemis said.

"We were much more relaxed. Defensively, we played a lot better. Jessie (Compton) pitched a pretty solid game.

"But we've got to hit the ball better. We've got to have more than five hits. We've got to get better and that will come with time," he said.

On the plus side, "Brittany Franklin, she did a nice job at the plate, Baylee Quay hit that big home run and Sabrina Kenfield was 2-for-3 in the second game," Bemis said.

The Wolfpack (1-0, 1-3) will play host on Tuesday to Missoula Sentinel and Missoula Big Sky.

GREAT FALLS - Alisha Lingle was 3-for-5 on the day but it wasn't enough to bring a victory to the Flathead Bravettes on Saturday.

The Bravettes (0-2) fell 4-1 to Great Falls High and 10-0 to CMR.

Flathead had seven hits against the Bison, but couldn't bring any runs across until the seventh inning.

The Bravettes managed to keep CMR out of the scoring column for one inning in the second game, but gave up four runs in both the second and third innings.

Lingle's two hits in that game were all the Bravettes could muster.
