Tennis teams tune up
The weather was bothersome and there were not enough players for an official dual, but the Glacier and Bigfork tennis squads went ahead with it anyhow.
The Glacier girls, led by a strong showing in doubles play, defeated Bigfork 5-3 and the boys squads settled for a 4-4 tie on a windy Monday at the Flathead Valley Community College courts.
Glacier head coach Josh Munro notched the day up to experience-building and preparation for today's crosstown dual with Flathead at 3 p.m.
"All the kids had to survive the elements, it was windy, the balls were doing some crazy things, but we had some pretty competitive matches," he said. "A lot of good doubles matches all the way around."
Amy Snipstead and Kailea Vaudt picked up a 7-5, 6-2 doubles victory; Ingrid Erickson and Shelby Ballard won 7-5, 6-3; Kirstyn Haugence and Lauren Jones won 6-1, 6-1 to lead Glacier. Katya Kulikova won in singles for the Wolfpack.
Kianna Wicklund, Ariel Stallknecht and Mckenzie Schults all won singles matches for Bigfork, which didn't have a full squad and had to forfeit five matches on the day but went ahead and filled the matches and played unofficially.
For boys, Brandon Simpson won for Glacier in singles and Conner Waterrud and Jordan Bridwell won in doubles.
Dylan Rickenbach, Ryan Gembala and Evan Jordt picked up singles victories while Seth Roessman and Nate Roberson won in doubles for Bigfork.
"It was good tune-up for kids that were not able to play ths weekend," Munro said.
