C-Falls boys, Whitefish girls capture track titles

LIBBY - Derrick Williams ran the third fastest 1,600 this season, Nate Thompson had the fourth best triple jump statewide and the Columbia Falls boys had another impressive showing in track and field on Thursday along with the Whitefish girls.

William clocked 4:30.92, the fastest time in Class A and the third fastest for all classes, and the Wildcats claimed first place at the Libby Invitational meet. Thompson jumped 43-feet-4 1/2 inches to win the triple jump.

Williams also won the 3,200; Anthony Correa took first in the 200 and 400; Thompson also finished first in the long jump and Columbia Falls, which also won the long relay, edged Libby by nine points, scoring 145.

For girls, Marlow Schulz and Jessica Sagen picked up two victories apiece and Whitefish tallied 178 total points for first place.

Schulz won the 100 and 400 and Sagen took first in the 1,600 and 3,200. Amanda Foley won the 200, Abby Stellnauer won discus and Phoebe Guercio took tops in the triple jump and Whitefish also won both relays.

Noxon's Adam Moore won both the javelin and discus. Other boys winners were: Gage Vasquez (800); Hunter Price (110 hurdles); Kody Berget (300 hurdles); Sawyer Zimmerman (shot put); Ryan Rayson (high jump); Chase Hoyer (pole vault).

Libby's Chancey Auge won both the 100 hurdles and javelin. Other girls winners were: Bailey Malecha (800); Jessie Gist (300 hurdles); Emily Billow (shot put); Jasmine Bradford (high jump); Taylor Gress (long jump); Myka Forster (pole vault).
