MISSOULA - Glacier banged out five doubles, two by Brittany Franklin, and rode a 5-run second inning to an 11-4 Western AA softball victory over Missoula Hellgate on Thursday.

Baylee Quay, Jenna Willis and Franklin hit three straight doubles in the second inning.

"That kind of broke it open," Glacier coach Joel Bemis said.

Kendra Bouley doubled in a run in Glacier's 3-run fourth inning and Franklin also doubled in a run in the seventh.

Jessie Compton pitched two strong innings, fanning four. Bouley finished up and struck out five. The duo held Hellgate to five hits.

"We had a couple of nice defensive efforts from (shortstop) Paige Latimer and Megan Connolly in right field," Bemis said.

"This was our best team effort so far this year. The girls supported each other, fit into their roles and worked hard."

Glacier (3-6 overall, 3-3 league) is back on the field today, 3 and 5 p.m., for a doubleheader with Flathead at Kidsports Complex.
