Hurlbert, Holiday are champs

Craig Hurlbert became the men's champion at the 75th annual Earl Hunt Memorial Fourth of July Tournament at the Whitefish Lake Golf Club Saturday.

The Hamilton man won the tourney on the first hole of a playoff with Missoula's Bill Dunn on the South Course.

Both players had final rounds of 71 to reach the playoff with one stroke leads over Robb Bergeson, who was in first place entering the final 18 holes.

Bozeman resident Rikka Holiday won the women's division championship despite a difficult final day on the North Course on which she finished with an 87.

She had entered the day 12 strokes ahead of the nearest challenger and was able to beat Emily Slayton who had the day's best round in the women's division with a score of 77.

Northwest Montana's highest finisher was Whitefish resident Chelsea Ray who finished in third place with a three-day total of 247. Fellow Whitefish golfer Kiley McConnel finished in 13th place with after posting a 88 Saturday for a 54-hole finish of 272.

On the men's side, Libby's Jim Mee finished in a tie for fifth with Dave Eames. Both golfers finished the tournament with three-day totals of 222.

Kalispell's Ryan Porch, who led the men's division after the first 18-holes, placed sixth after posting a 77 to finish the tourney with a score of 223. He tied with Arizona resident Ryan Swagar.

Mike Watson finished with a 226 on his home course for eighth place and Kalispell's Graham Schmaltz ended his effort one stroke back at 227.

2001 winner Spencer Williams shot a 72 to finish with a three-day total of 224 to take home seventh place.
