Classic Boat Show is next month

Classic watercraft will take center stage Aug. 6 and 7 in Lakeside at the sixth annual Big Sky Antique and Classic Boat Show.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 6 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 7. Admission is free.’

Three classic Jersey Speed Skiff high-performance racing boats will provide a spectacular show as part of the festivities.

More than 35 antique and classic boats will be on display in the water at The Docks Restaurant Marina and Waterside Condo Marina, and 15 or more small hand-built wood craft such as kayaks, canoes and rowing skiffs built by local craftspeople also will be on display at the Waterside Marina. 

The annual Boat Show Parade begins at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at Conrad Point and moves down the west shore of Flathead Lake to Somers Bay. People can be part of the parade onboard the Far West tour boat that will leave the Lakeside Marina at 3 p.m.

Along with the vintage racing boats, also new this year is a Marine Flea Market with a 30-plus-year collection of marine goods for boating enthusiasts.

The Montana Wooden Boat Foundation will have a tent set up during the show and Flathead High School student and other volunteer boat builders will showcase their recent projects.

The Hockaday Museum of Art will feature a quick-draw artist capturing the boats on canvas. The Museum at Central School will have a display of local boating history and the Flathead Lakers will have an educational display. Additionally, the Tamarack Grief Center will raffle off handpainted paddles by local artists.
