Detectives with the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an apparmed home invasion that occurred Wednesday afternoon on Hare Trail south of Whitefish.

A 16-year-old girl reportedly was held at gunpoint by three unknown male suspects who stole a safe containing eight firearms and ammunition, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

One of the girl’s parents called 911 to report the robbery at about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to dispatch logs

“We’re in the middle of the investigation right now,” Sheriff Chuck Curry said Thursday afternoon. “We’re working on it.”

Curry said it appears the suspects knew the victim and possibly were familiar with the home.

The person who called 911 said they potentially knew the girl’s brother.

Curry said he would withhold some information as detectives pursue leads and investigate potential suspects.

“People generally just don’t go to random houses and point a gun and say, ‘I want the gun safe,’” Curry said. “The suspect in some way knew the victim. We’re working on establishing that relationship right now.”

Curry said he expected to have more information on the robbery and possible suspects today.
