Members are being sought for a new, smaller Flathead County Museum Board.

Flathead County commissioners recently approved a resolution to create a five-member Museum Board, decreasing the board from seven members.

The terms of all Museum Board members have expired, but two of those people have said they would like to be appointed to the new board, Deputy Flathead County Attorney Peter Steele told county commissioners.

The main function of the board is to take care of historic exhibits that are planned for display cases in the courthouse. Once the remodeling project is completed this fall at the courthouse, Museum Board members are expected to create and maintain “museum-quality” displays.

Previously, Museum Board members didn’t have any specific tasks.

“By reducing the board size and defining something for them to do, this is something we can accomplish,” Commissioner Dale Lauman said.

People who would like to be appointed to the Museum Board should submit a letter of interest to the commissioners by July 25. The mailing address is 800 S. Main St., Kalispell, MT 59901.
