The century-old Lakeside Community Club has a full day of activities planned for its 22nd annual Lakeside Community Fair on Saturday, July 16, including a children's watermelon eating contest, 5K run-walk and a parade.

The club uses proceeds from the event to donate to charities throughout the Flathead Valley.

The fair begins with a pancake breakfast at Lakeside Chapel from 7 to 10 a.m.

Registration for the run-walk begins at 7:45 a.m. at Volunteer Park at the intersection of Adams Street and U.S. 93. Race time is 9 a.m.

An arts and crafts show runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Lakeside Elementary School. The silent auctions, quilt raffles, bake sale, peanut brittle sale and Attic Treasures are inside the gymnasium; doors open at 9 a.m.

The silent auction features dozens of gift certificates to Lakeside and Somers restaurants and businesses, an adult ski pass to Blacktail Mountain Ski Area, artwork and a golf package for two at Buffalo Hill Golf Club.

Among the silent auction items will be a handmade quilt. The quilt is a collaboration between Margo Faccini, who designed and made the quilt, and Barbara Dau, who quilted it. Both are award-winning quilters.

Another special silent auction item is a small wooden sailing dinghy known as a "peanut boat."

A children's silent auction also is planned from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with half-hour closings throughout the day.

A children's treasure hunt will be on the school grounds from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with a watermelon eating contest at 1 p.m.

The Lakeside parade is a highlight of the daylong fair and begins at 10 a.m., featuring Dale and Lois Lauman as grand marshals. The parade route begins on Bierney Creek Road, goes down U.S. 93, then turn up Adams Street, ending at Lakeside Elementary School.

Dale Lauman is a Flathead County commissioners and Lois is a longtime member of the Lakeside Community Club. Both have been active volunteers in the Lakeside community through the years.

The festivities continue at 2:30 p.m. with a split-the-pot drawing.

The fair wraps up with duck races at Tamarack Grill.
