Donald Curtis Marquis, 21

| July 12, 2011 2:00 AM

Donald Curtis Marquis, born June 6, 1990, “was called home to the Lord” on July 2, 2011, after a courageous three-year battle with acute myeloid leukemia.

Donald was known for his broad, easy smile, his extraordinary faith in God, and his capacity for love and forgiveness. His passions were the outdoors, drawing and football.

Donald was engaged to his true love, Christina Wendland, and dreamed of a future without cancer, where they would both finish college and make a life together. Donald and Christina shared a special bond, and she was with him until the moment he passed away.

Another great love of Donald's was his two younger brothers, Steven and Laniki. Steven was an immeasurable support to Donald during his illness and at his side until his last breath. Laniki was born after Donald became ill.  Laniki adored his “DonDon” and was a source of light and laughter to the whole family during such a dark time. Donald's older brothers, Jeb Marquis and Brandon Kinghorn, and older sister, Stephanie Brockmier were also very dear to him.

Donald's friends and family grieve the loss of his presence in everyday life, “but rejoice in his entrance into Heaven, and his eternal state of peace and joy in the arms of Jesus.”

Donald's parents, Dan and Jen Marquis, are blessed by all of the friends, family members, medical providers and charitable organizations from Eureka to Seattle, who have loved and supported their family over the last three years.

A celebration of Donald's life will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at the Chapel of Praise, 6474 Highway 93 South, in Eureka. There will also be a bonfire at 6 p.m. at the Kootenai Reservoir through the Swisher entrance.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Donald Marquis benefit fund at any First Interstate Bank, to help Donald's family with medical expenses.
