The popular Highline Trail in Glacier National Park will open to hikers this morning.

There’s still plenty of snow on the trail, park public affairs officer Denise Germann said, so visitors need to be careful.

The trail opening was delayed by lingering snow in Glacier.

The Highline Trail takes hikers along the steep face of the Garden Wall for 7.6 miles between Logan Pass and Granite Park Chalet.

The trailhead is just across Going-to-the-Sun Road from the Logan Pass parking lot.

The trail loses 3,026 feet in elevation while gaining only 830 feet.

Along the way, hikers can enjoy stunning views of Glacier’s peaks and valleys. The trail also offers everything from wildflowers to wildlife.

From Granite Park Chalet, hikers can either return to Logan Pass on the Highline Trail or take a 4-mile trail that ends at the Loop on Going-to-the-Sun Road.
