Royals hang on to eliminate Lakers
BUTTE - Kalispell scored eight runs in the final four innings but it still wasn't quite enough as the Billings Royals held on for a 14-10 loser-out victory on Friday at the Montana/Alberta Class AA State American Legion baseball tournament at Alumni Field.
Billings (33-17) led 11-2 after five innings before Kalispell's offense kicked in.
The Lakers (36-22) scored four runs in the sixth, three in the seventh and added one in the ninth.
Sidney Schenck had a big day at the plate for the Lakers. He went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs.
Cody Dopps, 2 for 4, homered for the Lakers in the sixth inning to left field. That was a three-run shot.
Joe Pistorese doubled for Kalispell and Dillon Matteson tripled.
Kalispell had 13 hits in the contest.
In the other loser-out contest Friday, the Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs slammed the Great Falls Chargers 29-14. Medicine Hat had 31 hits.
In winner's bracket action, the Billings Scarlets edged the Missoula Mavericks 13-12. That game ended at 11:30 p.m.
Today's lineup features Medicine Hat versus Missoula at 4 p.m. followed by the Billings Royals and Billings Scarlets at 7.
