Glacier rules crosstown, again
Flathead's Glenn Strickler returns a serve from Glacier’s Kellen Bates during No. 1 singles play on Tuesday at Flathead Valley Community College.
The second crosstown tennis match for Glacier and Flathead this spring was just like the first time.
Glacier dominated.
The Wolfpack girls posted an 8-0 dual win while the Wolfpack boys were 7-1 winners.
Glacier won by those same scores on April 12.
Flathead's Tucker Moe and Andrew Klinginsmith pulled out a dandy 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory at No. 1 doubles to spoil a perfect day for Glacier.
Glacier assistant coach Cameron Rozell said Quintyn Menegazzi and Izaak Castren at No. 3 doubles, along with Hilary Syvertson at No. 4 singles had outstanding days for the Wolfpack.
Menegazazi and Castren were 6-1, 6-2 winners.
Syvertson won 6-2, 6-2.
"I was impressed with them today," Rozell said of Menegazzi and Castren.
"That's the best they have played all year together. They were playing smart, serving well and closing the net."
On Syvertson ...
"She played consistent," Rozell said.
"She served better today. It was one of her better service matches."
Flathead's Glenn Strickler had the lone win for the Braves in the first round with Glacier. This time he was matched with defending state champion Kellen Bates in the No. 1 spot. Bates rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Bates did not play in the earlier meeting.
Up next for Glacier and Flathead is the Helena Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Divisional play follows May 12-13 at Flathead Valley Community College.
The Class AA State Tournament is set for May 20-21 in Great Falls.
