BUTTE - The Polson Pirate softball offense is alive and well.

The Pirates outscored their opponents 53-14 en route to a 4-0 record over the weekend at the LaVerne Combo Invitational.

The Pirates finished the tournament on Saturday with wins over Glendive (16-5) and Corvallis (19-7).

"I'm very satisfied, especially with our offense," said Polson coach Larry Smith.

"Great pitching, overwhelming hitting," he said.

For the weekend, Ashley Johnson was 9-for-14 with seven RBI, Shalaina Duford was 7-for-14 with nine RBI and Sallie Sams was 7-for-12 with 11 RBI.

The Pirates got off the mark quickly in all four wins.

"Every game, in the very first inning our one and two hitters - Ashley Johnson and Kodi Woods - they were always on base and we got them scored," Smith said.

The Pirates (15-4) have three big Northwestern A games this week. They go to Columbia Falls Tuesday, then host Ronan Thursday and Libby on Friday.
