A selection committee is being formed to begin the work of finding a new city manager, Kalispell Mayor Tammi Fisher said Thursday.

A local and national search will be conducted with an advertisement for the city’s top administrative position to be released Monday, Nov. 21.

“We hope to have a new city manager on board by the beginning of May, but we are determined to take as much time as necessary to find the right person for the position,” Fisher said.

In a press release, Fisher did not say who or how many people will sit on the selection committee. She did not return a call from the Inter Lake requesting comment.

Those details are expected to be fleshed out over the next week, City Clerk Theresa White said.

Meanwhile, Fisher said in her press release that the City Council is working to identify an interim city manager to bridge the transition.

A week ago, City Manager Jane Howington said she will resign at the end of December to take an identical position in Newport, R.I.
