Darrell "Murphy" Stout, 89, died peacefully at Parma Living Center in Parma, Idaho, on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Parma Senior Center under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, Idaho. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com.

Murphy was born Oct. 19, 1922, in Lake Freemont, Minn. He was the son of Delbert and Rose Stout. Murphy was a rifle expert in the Coast Guard and it was during this time of service that he met his lifelong love, an Army nurse, Lois Ball. They were married on June 1, 1945, in Modesto, Calif.

Murphy spent many of his later years hunting, fishing and traveling, after retiring from the Department of Interior where he was a fish culturalist at Creston National Fish Hatchery in Creston.

Murphy loved life and loved his wife and family. He had a unique sense of humor that was portrayed through his colorful language while telling his many stories. Whether Murphy was square dance calling, elk hunting, whittling walking sticks or king salmon fishing on the Kenai River, he made many friends and was a stranger to no one.

He is survived by his wife of 66-plus years, Lois; his sister, Margaret "Sis" David, of Kalispell two sons, Mike and wife Sandie of Anchorage, Alaska, and Casey and wife Debbie, also of Anchorage; and twin daughters, Janet Cooney of Parma, and Janice and husband Dave Aragon of Belen, N.M. Murphy is also survived by six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.

The Stout family would like to thank the Parma Living Center staff for the wonderful care they have given Murphy for the last several years.

Memorials may be sent in Murphy's name to the Parma Senior Center, P.O. Box 306, Parma, ID 83660.
