Kathryn Stewart Mitchell, 95

Kathryn Stewart Mitchell passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at Brendan House in Kalispell.

She was born in Great Falls on May 16, 1916. She graduated from Great Falls High School, and then worked at the Liberty Theater.

She met Earl Mitchell in Great Falls and they were married on May 1, 1943. Earl worked for Western Airlines and was soon transferred to Cheyenne, Wyo., where their daughter, Judy, was born. They were then transferred to Aurora, Colo., in 1946, where their son Kim was born.

Kathryn was active in her church and president of the Lady Elks. In 1962, they were transferred to Granada Hills, Calif.

In May 1980, they retired to the Flathead Valley where they have been residing. During their life together, they enjoyed traveling abroad and in the U.S.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers, and her son, Kim Mitchell.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Earl, her daughter, Judy Thorsen, and her husband, John, both of Kalispell; her granddaughters, Janel Sharpe of Indianapolis, Kelly Hinz of Phoenix, and Laurie Mitchell of San Clemente, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren, Marley, Nathan and Zachary.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 22, at Risen Christ Catholic Church, with Father Rudolph Bullman as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Diabetes Association.
