Waldher, Bray lead Cougars

The Cougars scored two goals in the first three minutes and never let up from there as Stillwater Christian earned a 6-0 win over the Polson Pirates Tuesday in a nonconference soccer match.

Stillwater Christian's Zach Waldher scored three goals in the game while Josh Bray scored twice and provided two assists.

"Great finishing tonight from Waldher," Stillwater coach Tim Anderson said. "He put away several nice passes from our forwards and (midfielders)."

Bray scored in the first minute after a pass by Julian Emond. Waldher found the back of the net two minutes later and scored for a third time in the 30th minute to make it 3-0.

Bray scored again in the 31st minute and provided an assist on Waldher's third goal three minutes later. Josh Topp provided the final Stillwater Christian goal in the 72nd minute.

"Solid team play and effort," Anderson said.

Stillwater Christian (13-2-1, 2-0) plays Bonners Ferry Friday at 4 p.m. Polson plays host to Libby on Saturday.

Libby 5, Bigfork 2

LIBBY - Patrick Valentine scored twice and the Libby Loggers downed the Bigfork Vikings 5-2 Tuesday in a nonconference soccer matchup.

Libby took a 2-0 lead at halftime after goals by Valentine in the 15th minute and Joel Schnackenberg in the 16th minute.

"The Vikings never gave up though," Libby coach Charlie Webster said. "They stayed right in it."

Anthony Fopp netted an unassisted goal in the 65th minute to get Bigfork on the board, though the Vikings were down 4-1 at that point.

His teammate Mack Paine scored on a free kick in the 70th minute.

But Valentine scored for the second time in the 79th minute to ice the victory for Libby. He also provided the assist on a score by Talus Martin in the 42nd minute.

"Patrick had a very good game," Webster said.

The Loggers will travel to Polson for their final regular season match on Saturday.

Libby goalkeeper Rebecca Kyriss had seven saves, Bigfork goalkeeper Alexandria Dillon had four saves and their teams played to a scoreless draw.

Bigfork outshot Libby 7-4 but neither team could find the back of the net.

Bigfork hosts Polson on Thursday. Libby travels to Polson for its regular season finale' on Saturday.
