Get that lederhosen washed and stretch out those chicken-dancing muscles: The Great Northern Oktoberfest is back for its second and final weekend in Whitefish.

The event, a fundraiser for the Whitefish Chamber of Commerce, starts at 5 p.m. Friday when the big top and beer garden open at Depot Park in Whitefish.

The Western Senators will perform throughout the evening, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Friday events include the third qualifying round for the world keg-hurling championships, men’s and women’s stein-holding and log-sawing contests and a brat-eating competition.

The tent closes at 11 p.m.

The fun reopens at 2 p.m. Saturday with more contests, more music by the Western Senators and a Bavarian sing-a-long. The final keg-hurling round will begin at 6:15 p.m.

Sunday is Seniors’ Day at Oktoberfest; adults age 60 and older will be admitted for free.

The event runs from noon to 7 p.m. that day. In addition to contests, even more music by the Western Senators and, or course, beer and bratwurst, Sunday’s Oktoberfest will include the chicken dance championships for seniors.
