Whitefish upends Columbia Falls

COLUMBIA FALLS - Maximilian Smith ran 5 yards for a touchdown and Christopher Forrest teamed up with Logan Harwood on a 35-yard scoring strike as Whitefish picked up its first Northwestern A football victory of the season with a 14-6 triumph over rival Columbia Falls on Friday.

Smith finished with 99 yards on 15 carries.

"It was a miserable night from a weather standpoint," Columbia Falls coach Bill Coleman said of the rain.

"They were able to sustain one drive."

The other score came on a big play.

Columbia Falls failed to score on three trips to the red zone.

Zach Darling had 104 yards rushing on 26 carries for the Wildcats (2-4 overall and 0-2 league).

Austin Barth had the lone score for Columbia Falls on a 1-yard run.

The victory for Whitefish (3-3 and 1-2) snapped a five-game losing streak to Columbia Falls.

Columbia Falls plays at Frenchtown on Friday while Whitefish travels to Belgrade for a nonconference contest.

Polson 42, Frenchtown 0

POLSON - Will Davey ran for three touchdowns and Vince DiGiallonardo ran for two and passed for another as No. 4-ranked Polson crushed Frenchtown (0-6 and 0-2) 42-6 in Northwestern A action.

Davey scored on runs of 3, 10 and 1 yard.

DiGiallonardo had scoring runs of 12 and 2 yards. He hooked up with Justin Hoel on a 19-yard TD pass.

Davey and DiGiallonardo shared duties under center.

"That's a nice thing," Polson coach Scott Wilson said of having two talented QBs.

"It was nice to be able to get Vince some snaps again."

DiGiallonardo has been sidelined with an ankle injury.

Polson (6-0 and 3-0) rolled up 310 yards on the ground on 50 attempts.

"We ran the ball really well," Wilson said.

"With the (wet) conditions tonight, it was tough to throw. Our offensive line did a great job."

Polson hosts Libby on Friday while Frenchtown entertains Columbia Falls.

THOMPSON FALLS - Cody Dopps rushed for 193 yards on 24 carries and scored four touchdowns as No. 7-ranked Bigfork whipped Thompson Falls in District 7B play.

Dopps' scoring runs covered 5, 27, 4 and 1 yard.

Thompson Falls (4-2 and 1-1) scored on the first play from scrimmage when Dominic Colt ripped off a 45-yard TD run. It was all Bigfork, however, after that.

Thompson Falls finished with 98 yards rushing.

"We just played a solid game," Bigfork coach Todd Emslie said.

The seventh ranked Vikings (5-1 and 3-0) punted just once. That came in the fourth quarter.

Bigfork hosts Missoula Loyola on Friday.

PLAINS - Bryton Guckenberg hauled in touchdown passes of 82 and 52 yards from quarterback Ryan Holder and Curtis McDuffie run 6 yards for a score and was on the receiving end of a 12-yard touchdown pass from Holder as Eureka (4-2 and 2-0) romped to an easy District 7B victory over Plains (0-6 and 0-3).

Holder also ran 15 yards for a touchdown.

It was a big victory for Eureka following last week's 46-20 nonconference loss to Florence.

Eureka hosts Thompson Falls on Friday.

LIBBY - Havre's Ryan Brandt rushed for 162 yards and two touchdowns as the Blue Ponies rode to a Class A nonconference victory over Libby.

Nolen Broden caught two passes for 70 yards and a touchdown and Micah Germany and Jared Winslow combined for 132 passing yards for Libby.

The Loggers (4-3, 2-1) managed just 129 yards of total offense while the Blue Pones totaled 488.
