Flathead wrapped up a successful girls soccer regular season by blanking Helena High 2-0 on Saturday at Kidsports Complex.

Malia Ozegovich and Sarah Cummins scored goals for the Bravettes. Cummins also assisted on the first goal.

Flathead (6-1-5) finished second in the Western AA standings and will host No. 7 Glacier in a state play-in match.

Flathead coach Scott Warnell said the play-in match is tentatively set for 3 p.m. Thursday at Kidsports Complex. The winner will advance to state.

"Again, we passed really well, had several good opportunities and were able to get two in the back of the net today," Warnell said.

"That was good."

The Bravettes turned in another standout effort defensively, posting their eighth shutout of the season. FHS has allowed just four goals in 12 matches.

"A back-and-forth game," Glacier coach Paul Holmgren said.

"I was extremely proud of the girls. You can tell by the shot count it was very even, a very physical game. Both teams played very well."

Holmgren said Morgan Meier "did a tremendous job running the defense. She made a couple tremendous saves."

Time nearly ran out on Glacier in its final home match of the season.

"The guys kept working until the end of the game," Glacier coach Ryan O'Rourke said.

Flathead coach Chris Putzler said the Braves played sharply despite the lopsided loss in the team's final game of the regular season.

"There are some positives there," he said. "They did a great job of stepping to the ball, beating Helena to the ball sometimes and working more as a team."

Flathead will travel to No. 2 Missoula Sentinel for a 3 p.m. Wednesday state play-in match.
