Stillwater volleyball, soccer in title games at MCAA state
LAUREL - Stillwater Christian School has advanced to the championship matches in volleyball and boys soccer at the Montana Christian Athletic Assocation state tournaments.
The SCS girls volleyball team advanced with a 25-18, 25-9, 25-11 semifinal victory on Friday over Yellowstone County Homeschool.
The SCS boys soccer team (17-2-1) posted a 3-1 victory over Yellowstone County Homeschool in the semifinal round on Friday.
The Cougars will face Foothills Community Christian School today at 1 p.m. in the final.
The soccer team will play for its ninth consecutive title.
"Josh Bray had great explosion up front for us," SCS soccer coach Tim Anderson said.
"He created many chances and finished well in the most crucial moments of the game.
"Daniel King was the game changer," Anderson added.
"His tenacity and energy in the back created momentum for us early in the second half. Cody Harmon in the back and Ryan Koch in the middle did a great job of stabilizing our defense and allowing us to transition forward quickly and effectively."
Bray scored two goals for the Cougars in the semifinal match. Zane Kloeckl scored the first, just 18 minutes into play.
The Cougars volleyball squad, undefeated state champs a year ago, enter today's title match at 2:30 p.m. with a 30-1 mark.
Last year the Cougars finished 30-0.
"Kathrynn Gerard had a monster game for us at the net with nine kills and four blocks," Stillwater coach Dave Shawback said of the semifinal outing.
"Jordan Danz and Katie Harrel passed the ball well and Morgan Paolini is a great team leader.
"The girls played with confidence and played as a team," he continued.
"There was no mental letdown in any of the games. They stepped up their game to dominate Yellowstone."
