Mary Lou Ballard, 84

Mary Lou Ballard, 84, passed away Sept. 27, 2011, in Lynnwood, Wash.

She was born July 22, 1927, in Chappell, Neb., to Frank Ludwig and Sadie Maye (Snyder) Newberg.

After graduating from McMinnville High School in Oregon in 1944, she joined the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. Mary Lou received her degree from St. Patrick School of Nursing in Missoula, in 1947.

 On Sept. 17, 1948, she married John William Ballard in Richmond, Ky. They moved to eastern Montana in 1950, then to Kalispell in 1967. Mary Lou was a registered nurse at Kalispell Regional Hospital for 24 years, retiring in 1991. She moved to Washington in 2007 following her husband's passing in 1999.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband John, brother Charles Newberg, and sister Carol Gidley.

She is survived by her children, James E. Ballard, Mary C. Ballard, Robert L. Ballard and Laura, and grandchildren, Marlana and Cody; sisters, Evelyn Koenigshof and Ilene Fox; and brother, Darrell Newberg.
