A 36-year-old Kalispell man is facing charges after allegedly facing down a man with whom he had been upset — with a shotgun and a revolver.

According to court documents, Matthew Heuer was standing near the property of the victim when the man returned home. The victim told deputies Heuer was holding the two guns, and said “Let’s end this right now you chicken (expletive)” when he got out of his vehicle.

Heuer then allegedly fired a shot from the revolver, which hit the ground between 20 and 25 feet away from the victim, who told deputies he was afraid for his life at the time.

Court documents state that Heuer later told deputies he had been extremely upset with the victim and acknowledged that he fired the revolver. Heuer said he did it to let the victim know “there’s no more talking.” He also allegedly admitted his shooting was unsafe but that “when you get into a crazy mood ... things happen.”

Heuer is charged with felony assault with a weapon and felony criminal endangerment. If convicted of both charges, he faces up to 30 years in jail and a fine of up to $100,000.
