Strickler wins a pair for Braves in tennis
Playing with mostly junior varsity players, the Flathead tennis team was still able to take a couple matches from some of the best in the state Saturday in Missoula.
The Flathead boys were able to take a match from defending state champs Missoula Hellgate and two from Sentinel.
Glenn Strickler defeated Hellgate’s Dylan Harvala, a state qualifier last season, 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 for the Braves’ only singles win of the two matches. Strickler also won a tight match against Helena Capital before losing his last match of the night to Sentinel’s Lucas Vetto.
“He had three very, very intense matches that went to tiebreakers and won two of the three,” Braves coach Jeff Anderson said. “He had a phenomenal day.”
The boys got doubles wins against Sentinel from the teams of Miles Sorlie and Tucker Moe and Andrew and Tyler Klingensmith, both in three sets.
The girls didn’t record a win against the Missoula schools but were able to take one from Capital.
“The team competed very well considering many athletes were JV,” Anderson said. “The match scores don’t indicate how well we did. The kids competed. With the youth we have on our team, they did very, very well.”
Flathead hosts Bigfork on Monday and plays the crosstown game against Glacier on Tuesday. Both matches begin at 3 p.m.
