The tennis courts were busy at Flathead Valley Community College on Tuesday.

Between Glacier and Flathead, coaches Josh Munro and Jeff Anderson estimated around 180 kids played tennis.

Glacier won both. The Wolfpack defeated Flathead 7-1 in both boys and girls.

“That’s great for tennis in Kalispell,” said Flathead coach Jeff Anderson.

“It was a great experience.”

“It was great to see so many kids in the valley enjoying tennis,” agreed Glacier coach Josh Munro.

“The weather cooperated, the kids had a good time. You could definitely see some of the things we’ve been working on as well as things to improve,” he said.

“I thought all around it was good competition from everybody. Both teams played really well and I was really happy with the way our doubles played. They had some good matches (last) Saturday. It was good to see them bring some momentum from the weekend.

I’m happy overall with the way all the doubles meshed together and played hard,” he added.

He was impressed with Glacier’s No. 1 doubles team of Karl Hellwig and Danny Roe.

They dropped the second set, but bounced back to claim the third, 6-1.

“Going into this match, we knew we were playing the best team in the state. I asked my kids to play with heart and to play every point as if it was their last,” Anderson said.

“They played really, really well,” he said.

“The kids competed. They’re competing well. I’m happy with the effort they are giving. We played a better team tonight, but they fought for every point.”

Anderson complimented No. 4 girls singles, sophomore Anna Milheim, and No. 3 boys singles, Andrew Klingensmith for their victories.

“We’re really pleased (Milheim) got that opportunity and was able to get the win. And that was a good win for (Klingensmith) also,” the coach said.

He also complimented freshman Alexandra Moe.

“She stepped up to play No. 2 singles against a very tough Hailey Blalack.

“She played tough and fought for points. I was very happy with her intensity and her effort,” Anderson said.

Both teams travel to Missoula on Saturday to face Big Sky, Hellgate and Sentinel.
