Bulldog netters roll past Loggers
WHITEFISH — Only one match went the distance as Whitefish pretty much ruled the court Thursday afternoon in a Northwestern A tennis dual with Libby.
Whitefish rolled to a 7-0 victory.
Matteo Barbuti of Whitefish defeated Jason Schnackenberg in an exciting No. 1 singles match, 1-6, 6-2, 6-0.
This was Whitefish’s season opener and marked just the fourth time the Bulldogs have practiced outdoors this spring.
“A lot of senior leadership,” Whitefish coach Chris Schwaderer said of this year’s squad.
“A pretty competitive bunch. We’re solid from top to bottom.”
Bigfork entertains Bigfork today at 3 p.m.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Columbia Falls prevented a sweep by Polson with a win at 0No. 1 doubles.
And what a win for the Wildcats it was.
Parker Johnson and Brian Marcille stopped Will Davey and Ian Laimbeer 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8).
“I’m proud of Parker and Brian,” Columbia Falls coach Gary Yee said.
“They had a tough first set, but they really lifted their game in the second and third set. That was impressive.”
Yee said Miroslav Zvyagelskiy also had a strong showing at No. 1 singles despite losing to Brady Hislop 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
“A great match,” Yee said.
“Like a chess match. It went 2 1/2 hours. There were some great battles.”

COLUMBIA FALLS — The score was heavily in favor of Polson in this Northwestern A conference outing, but Columbia Falls coach Jerry Smalley was not discouraged.
“(Gabrielle) Stenger and Natalie (Law) I thought played very strong matches for the amount of court time we’ve had this spring,” Smalley said.
“This was just our sixth time outside.”
Smalley said “some of our young players gained a lot of experience in today’s matches.”

WHITEFISH — For Whitefish, it was a dandy start.
The Bulldogs won all three doubles matches and three of four singles contests.
“It was really nice to get the first match in of the year,” Whitefish coach Patrick Dryden said. “We are way ahead of where we were at this point last year.
“I was really pleased with the play of our doubles,” he added.
“We have all our doubles kids back.”
Whitefish entertains Bigfork today.
