Glacier splits, Bravettes fall twice in Helena; Libby whips Whitefish

HELENA — Jenna Willis went 3-for-5 at the plate and held Helena High to five hits in going the distance in the circle as Glacier rolled to a 10-1 Western AA softball victory on Saturday over the Lady Bengals.

Glacier outhit the Lady Bengals 10-5 and had just one error to five for the hosts.

Shayna Atlee and Katie McHugh also helped the Glacier offense with two hits each.

Willis doubled twice, and McHugh and Kallie Evans also had doubles.

Glacier, however, could not follow through in its next outing, falling to Helena Capital 11-1 in five innings.

The Lady Bruins outhit Glacier 14-5.

Glacier continues with league play on Thursday at home with Missoula Hellgate. The Wolfpack face Flathead on Friday.

Flathead drops 2

HELENA — Flathead turned in a strong outing versus Helena Capital, leading 2-0 through four innings. But Capital pulled it out with a pair of three-run innings in the fifth and sixth for a 6-2 victory.

Flathead followed with a tough 8-3 loss to Helena High.

Both outings were Western AA affairs.

“We had two rough innings,” Flathead coach Ashley Fusaro said.

“It was a heartbreaker for us (Capital game).

“When you put that much energy into one, it’s hard to come back and play a second game.”

Fusaro said Sidney Alberts pitched “very well today. She had a lot of movement on the ball.”

Alberts went the distance against Capital, holding the Lady Bruins to six hits. Flathead had eight hits, led by Shayla Tweet, who was 2-for-4.

Cassidy Smith, Alberts and Carson Dawson doubled for FHS, while Tweet ripped a triple.

Alberts pitched into the fifth inning against Helena High.

In that outing, Julie Morrow and Julie Dawson both had two hits as Flathead totaled just six.

Flathead (1-5 overall, 1-3 league) faces Glacier on Friday.

LIBBY — Kim Tangen and Kelsey Klin both had two hits and Hannah England went the distance in the circle, limiting Whitefish to three singles, as Libby posted a Northwestern A victory.

Tangen doubled in two runners in a five-run second inning and Klin tripled in a runner in the third inning.

“Hannah England pitched a great game for us,” Libby coach Dean Thompson said.

“She had good control.”

Libby (1-2 overall, 1-0 league) plays at Polson on Tuesday.
