Wolfpack shines in field events

On a bright and breezy day, the Glacier track team hosted its only meet of the season, coming out strong against some of the best athletes in the Flathead Valley.

The Wolfpack boys nearly swept the field events with Josiah Bumgardner clearing a season-high 13 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault. They also got wins in all three jumps and the discus.

“This was kind of what we’re looking for in the middle of the week,” Glacier boys coach Arron Deck said. “We know where we want to be in May. Each week we’re building.”

Whitefish’s Iaian Cameron comfortably won the 100-meter dash, finishing in 11.76 seconds, and Ronan’s Paden Alexander cruised to a victory in the 3,200, crossing the line in 10:36.12.

On the girls side, Bigfork’s Makena Morley decided to stretch her repertoire, foregoing her normal distance events to test her speed in the 400 and 800. She finished well ahead in the 800, finishing in 2:20.98, a full 17 seconds in the lead, and held off a hard charge from Glacier’s Kendall Halliburton in the 400 to finish first in 1:03.11.

Glacier’s Lexy Boschee continued her strong senior season with wins in the 300 hurdles and the triple jump. Boschee spanned 36-3 in the triple to clear the field by more than three feet, then moved immediately to the hurdles, where she ran a state qualifying time of 46.35 in her first attempt this season.

Glacier also got wins from Shauna Wulliams and Abby Carlson in the shot put and discus, respectively, while Whitefish swept the relays, winning both with relative ease.

The Bulldogs also got a win from Marlow Schulz in the 100, finishing in 13.28 seconds.
