Kalispell Sunrisers Lions Club has launched a fundraising project including a radiothon to purchase a $20,000 sound system for the Veterans Memorial at Depot Park in downtown Kalispell.

The two men instrumental in creating the memorial, Chuck Olson and Jack Heller, included a public address and music system as part of their vision for the project.

Each day the system would broadcast “Reveille” and “Taps” through speakers placed at strategic locations.

Veterans and other civic groups could use the sound system for events near the memorial.

The daylong May 1 by 600 KGEZ Radio and the Sunrisers takes place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Chuck Olson Real Estate at the corner of Main and Third Street in downtown Kalispell. The club has pledged $2,500 toward the $20,000 goal.

Veterans, civic and fraternal groups and the general public are encouraged to call 751-1000 to make a pledge or drop off a donation. Contributions may be mailed to  the Veterans Memorial, c/o Chuck Olson Real Estate, 241 Main St., Kalispell, MT 59901.

Five Guys Burgers & Fries will give gift cards as incentives for donations.

For more information, contact Mike Wood of the Sunrisers at 885-2770, John Hendricks at 600 KGEZ radio 755-1661 or Chuck Olson at 253-1000.
