POLSON — Shalaina Duford struck out six and then hit a pair of doubles and had four RBIs to help lead the Polson Pirates past visiting Hamilton on Thursday night, 17-1 in five innings.

The Pirates (3-2) had a great night at the plate overall, with 15 hits.

Martina Marquardt was 3-for-4, Duford was 2-for-3, Jaylin Kenney was 2-for-3, and Ashley Johnson, Riley Kenney and Jessica Bagnell were all 2-for-2.

“Rebecca Hood has been a starting pitcher since she was a freshman. The girls were looking forward to swinging the bat against her and they did an excellent job,” said Polson coach Larry Smith.

“Shalaina pitched an excellent game,” the coach added.

All three of Hamilton’s hits (including a home run by Nichole Hood) were in the first inning.

“Once she settled down, they couldn’t touch her,” Smith said of Duford.

The Pirates are at Whitefish on Saturday.
