Good day for Glacier tennis

Keckeley Habel might have had the busiest day of anyone on the tennis courts on Thursday.

Habel claimed a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles over Columbia Falls McKenna Emmerich, then just a little while later played one of the leads in the Glacier High School play on Thursday night.

All in all, the Wolfpack isn’t complaining about the day as it downed Columbia Falls 7-1 in girls and 6-2 in boys competititon.

“It was a really good day for everybody, very competitive,” said Glacier coach Josh Munro.

Winners for Columbia Falls were Emma Coville at No. 3 singles, Caleb Baumann at No. 4 singles and Miroslav Zvyagelskiy and Parker Johnson at No. 1 doubles.

“All the kids played well, especially those with new positions, new partners. I was really happy with the play of the four doubles boys (Logan Iverson, Andy Boyer, Ryan Porch and Robbie Krueger) and very happy with the girls doubles all the way around,” he said.

“I thought it was very competitive overall on both sides. There were really good points where the scores aren’t necessarily showing how the matches were played,” he said.

Next up for Glacier is the Kalispell Invitational on Saturday. Seven schools (Flathead, Glacier, Columbia Falls, Polson, Big Sky, Sentinel and Hellgate) will attend.

All in all, 144 matches will be played at three venues. No. 1 and No. 2 boys and girls will be at Flathead Valley Community College, No. 3 girls will be at Thompson Court and No. 3 boys will be at Hawthorne Court.

Munro expects a good show from the top four singles boys in the tournament — Kellen Bates and Hunter Blalack of Glacier, Alex Braun of Hellgate, and Glenn Strickler from Flathead.
