Sun Road plows pass The Loop

Glacier National Park snowplow crews have advanced past The Loop and are approaching Haystack Creek on Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Meanwhile, an east-side crew has been clearing snow from the Two Medicine Campground, where 5- to 20-foot snow drifts were encountered.

There are about 17 miles of Sun Road open to vehicle travel from the east and west entrances.

Hikers and bikers can travel 5.5 miles beyond the vehicle closure at Lake McDonald Lodge to the Avalanche Campground.  On the east side, hikers and bikers can travel beyond the vehicle closure at Rising Sun.

Elsewhere in the park, the Camas Road is now open, while closures remain in effect on Many Glacier Road, Cut Bank Road and Chief Mountain Road.

Most of the Inside North Fork Road remains closed and vehicles can travel as far as Running Eagle Falls on the Two Medicine Road.

Because of road construction work, June 15 is the earliest date that Sun Road could open over Logan Pass. That opening, however, is heavily dependent on weather and snow-clearing progress.
