Columbia Falls sweeps Libby track meet

The Columbia Falls boys and girls ran away with team victories at Saturday’s Libby Invitational.

The Wildkats got wins in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 on the track to hold off the strong field of sprinters from Whitefish. Jinise Osbourne swept the distance events, finishing the 1,600 in 5:39.27 and the 3,200 in a state qualifying time of 12:16.81. The ’Kats took the top three spots in the 800 with Danielle Delventhal coming out on top in 2:49.23. Columbia Falls also got a win from Tayler Gress in the long jump, spanning 14 feet, 10 inches.

Whitefish made a strong push for the team victory, finishing six points short but winning more events than any school at the meet. Marlow Schulz won the 200 (27.16) and 400 (59.78), while teammate Amanda Foley took the 100 (13.08) and 300 hurdles (47.33). The Bulldogs easily won both relays and Abby Strellnauer won both the discus and the javelin.

Eureka’s Jasmine Bradford was the only three-event winner at the meet, winning the 100 hurdles in 17.85, clearing the bar in the high jump at 4-8 and spanning 31-5 1/2 in the triple jump.

The boys’ race wasn’t quite as close, with Columbia Falls taking control in nearly every event.

Anthony Correa won both the 200 (23.66) and 400 (51.54) for the Wildcats and teammates Josiah Osbourne (11.77) and Dan Jones (11.83) finished 1-2 in the 100.
