MISSOULA — Two local runners broke meet records at the Western Montana Top 10 meet in Missoula on Tuesday, leading a handful of outstanding performances.

Bigfork’s Makena Morley, who has blown away records in nearly every meet this season, set the new Top 10 meet record in the 3,200 meter run, running the race in a season-best 10 minutes, 44.46 seconds, more than 16 seconds faster than the old mark. Hellgate’s Paige Gilchrist, who set the record last season, finished second in 10:59.19, a mark that also would have been a new record.

Whitefish’s Amanda Foley set a new meet record in the 100, finishing the race in a blistering time of 12.51 seconds, beating the mark of 12.54 set by Whitefish’s Courtney Ferda in 2004. It was the fastest time run in the state this season.

Polson’s Anna DiGiallonardo finished second in the 100, in 12.66, highlighting a fantastic day for the Pirate junior. She also finished third in the 200, in just 26.18 seconds.

Whitefish’s Marlow Schulz finished third in the 400, in 60.10, and the Bulldogs were second in the 400 relay and fourth in the 1,600 relay. Columbia Falls’ Jinise Osborne finished fifth in the 1,600 as the only placer for the Wildkats.

On the boys side, Columbia Falls’ Derrick Williams won the 800 in 1:59.57 and finished second in the 1,600. Bigfork’s Ryan Hayes also placed in two events, coming in second in the 400 (50.78) and finishing fifth in the 200 (22.92).

Polson’s Riley Sampson was the only local placer in the field events, finishing second in the shot put with a toss of 50 feet, 11 3/4 inches.
