Auction to benefit photo nonprofit

| April 27, 2012 5:31 PM

The Walking Man Frame Shop and Gallery will host a gallery exhibit and fundraiser for Youth Image Project as part of Whitefish Gallery Nights.

The exhibit’s opening reception takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at the gallery, located at 305 Baker Ave.

Youth Image Project, founded by former Inter Lake photographer Jennifer DeMonte, is the Flathead Valley’s only year-long after-school arts-based program for at-risk youths. The program matches teens with professional photographer mentors. Tuition, cameras and all materials are provided.

The upcoming exhibit showcases the work of local, regional and internationally recognized photographers who support Youth Image Project’s mission. Many of the photographers have won numerous awards throughout the world for their work in photojournalism. Their work has been featured in publications such as National Geographic Adventure, The New York Times and Outside magazine.

These photos will be auctioned off during the fundraiser. The show will also feature photographs by Youth Image Project students enrolled in the nonprofit’s spring classes through Stumptown Art Studio in Whitefish.

For more information, call DeMonte at 270-3377, visit youthimageproject.org or follow the nonprofit on Facebook.
