Special Olympics scheduled today

Special Olympics Montana Area Games get under way today at several locations across the Flathead Valley.

 Opening ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m. at Legends Stadium in Kalispell.

 Track and field events will take place at Legends starting at 9:30 a.m.

 Swimming will be at The Wave in Whitefish starting at 1:30 p.m.        

 Bowling will be at Pin ‘n’ Cue in Whitefish at 1:30 p.m.

 Golfing will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Buffalo Hill Golf Club in Kalispell.     

 Cycling starts at 9:30 a.m. at Kalispell Middle School.

 Power lifting will take place at 1 p.m. at Flathead Health and Fitness in Kalispell.

The event is sponsored by the Glacier Area Management Team for Special Olympics and a host of other volunteers.

Nine delegations and nearly 200 athletes from the Flathead Valley will participate. Together with coaches and volunteers, 250 people will be involved.

A dance will be held at The Red Lion Hotel Kalispell from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to all events, as well as the dance.
