EUREKA — Kootenai Valley did the bulk of its scoring early, leading 7-0 after three inning on its way to an 8-4 American Legion baseball victory on Saturday over the Mission Valley B Mariners at the Earl Russell Round Robin tournament.

“(Dalton) Smith pitched a pretty good game, Ryan (Holder) had a timely double that drove in a couple early in the second inning,” Kootenai Valley coach Brent Holder said.

The victory was the second straight in this event for the Rangers, who are now 6-0 on the season.

Ryan Holder went 2-for-3 and had three RBIs on the day.

EUREKA — It was a tale of two games for the Libby Logger American Legion baseball team.

Loggers Jared Winslow and Nick Robertson combined to throw a one-hitter as Libby got the best of the Glacier Twins, 10-0 at the Earl Russell Round Robin in Eureka.

But against the Mission Valley Mariners, it was the Logger bats that went cold, as they had just one hit in a 14-0 loss.

“I thought we pitched and swung the bat really well in the first game against Glacier. That was a nice way to start the season. Jared (Winslow) picked up where he left off last year,” said Libby coach Kelly Morford.

Luke Haggerty was 3-for-3 in that game. Will Reichel, Winslow and Tanner Tammaro had two hits apiece for Libby.

The second game?

“Mission is a good team that swings the bat really well. We’re going to have to go to work. Hopefully we can compete better with them down the road,” Morford said.

The Mariners bats worked just fine as they rolled up 14 hits.

Jack Humphreys, Zeke Yaquiq, Justin Evertz, Austin VonTom and Jacob Young all had two hits apiece.

Libby plays the Missoula Pioneers at 10:45 a.m. today.
