Rogozynski's catch saves Wolfpack in 6-5 win over Capital

Saturday brought another upset for the Glacier Wolfpack softball team.

Glacier right fielder Marissa Rogozynski robbed Western AA Helena Capital of a grand slam at the fence for the final out of a 6-5 Wolfpack victory at Kidsports Complex.

Glacier (4-7, 5-10) endured a bit of a letdown after that game, though, and lost its second game of the day 7-4 to Helena High.

“It was going over the fence. She caught it head high at the fence. It would have been a home run,” Bemis said.

Rogozynski told him afterward she was leaning on the fence when she made the grab.

“It was emotional. It was a big win for us. When we are playing well, we can play with the best teams in the conference,” Bemis said.

Glacier was up 6-4 after the sixth inning, but Capital scored one run in the top of the seventh and had the bases loaded.

“It was a huge win for us. It was neat. The girls did good things. They played the short game well, put the ball in play when we needed to and we capitalized on a couple errors,” he said.

Rogozynski batted 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in the second game, but the Wolfpack gave up 15 hits in the loss.

The good thing about beating Western AA leaders Capital and Sentinel (earlier in the week) is tiebreakers will go to wins over highest seeds, Bemis said.

“In certain tiebreak situations, that becomes a help,” he said.

Next up for Glacier is a trip to Polson on Tuesday.
