EUREKA — Mission Valley A handed the Kootenai Valley Rangers their first loss of the American Legion baseball season Sunday afternoon at the Earl Russell Round Robin Tournament.

Nick Crawford struck out eight and checked the Rangers on four hits in a 7-0 Mariners’ victory.

“In the third inning, they got guys on base with three bunts in a row,” Eureka coach Brent Holder said. “We covered it horribly. We had three errors in a row and they scored a run each time.”

Holder said the Rangers “couldn’t string any hits together,” to mount an offensive attack.

The Rangers (7-1) did bounce back to beat the Glacier Twins 11-9 in the second game.

Trailing 6-2, the Rangers scored nine times in the fourth inning to take an 11-6 edge.

Kade Davis had the big blow in that inning, a three-run home run to left field. It was Davis’ first round-tripper of the season.

The Rangers, who had six errors in the first game, had five against Glacier.

“The boys are a little tired,” Holder said. “That was our eighth game in eight days ... a pretty rigorous schedule to open the season.”
