Brothers sentenced for theft, forgery spree

Two Kalispell brothers were sentenced July 26 in Flathead District Court on convictions for felony forgery and misdemeanor theft.

Christopher Eby, 27, and Nicholas Eby, 23, each received a deferred three-year sentence for forgery and a concurrent, suspended six-month sentence for theft.

Christopher originally was charged with eight counts of felony forgery, one count of felony burglary, two counts of misdemeanor theft and one count of misdemeanor deceptive practices. Nicholas originally was charged with felony counts of burglary, criminal possession of dangerous drugs and forgery, as well as two misdemeanor counts of theft.

The additional charges were dropped when the men pleaded to the individual forgery and theft charges.

The brothers stole two saws, five purses and their contents, two wallets, an iPod, a cell phone and a laptop, forged more than $4,500 worth of checks from 12 accounts and spent more than $150 on a stolen credit card between April and August 2007.

In addition to their deferred and suspended sentences, they also were ordered to pay restitution to Glacier Bank.
