A 51-year-old Columbia Falls woman was given a six-year deferred sentence Tuesday in Flathead District Court after pleading guilty to felony embezzlement.

Calle Ewert used company funds to pay her Bank of America, First Interstate Bank and MetLife Insurance bills as well as issuing checks to herself using company funds between June 2010 and march 2011 while employed as bookkeeper at the Korner Shop in Kalispell.

She initially admitted to stealing roughly $5,000, but later said she was unsure how much she had taken. An examination of the company’s accounts later determined she had stolen roughly $33,000.

In addition to her sentence, Ewert was ordered to pay more than $34,500 in restitution.
