Sara Ann Nichols, 70

| August 4, 2012 7:04 PM

Sara was born in Detroit on Dec. 19, 1941, and passed away in Kalispell on Aug. 1, 2012, surrounded by her four beautiful daughters and loving husband.

Though Sara was born in Detroit, her family moved during her childhood to Globe, Ariz., where she attended school prior to moving to Phoenix and completing her high school education. While Sara was visiting her parents in Bigfork she met Robert Nichols. When Robert returned to his teaching position in Alaska, he sent for Sara and her three girls. They were married at Eielson Air Force Base on Sept. 18, 1965. During the following year they welcomed daughter number four into the family.

Sara worked at various jobs for the state of Alaska court system and the public school system but her primary "job" and love was raising and nurturing her four cherished daughters. As her family expanded, she passed her love to her 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

In her later years Sara divided her time among her homes in Alaska, Arizona and Montana. She was always eager for new adventures and lived in Costa Rica for two years while visiting several countries in Central and South America, but North Pole, Alaska was always home.

Some of her favorite hobbies were quilting, stamping, bowling and golfing, which lead to many wonderful friendships.

Sara is survived by her husband of 46 years, Robert Nichols; and daughters, Denise Martin, Charrisse Yingst, Cheryl Warwick, and Kathaleen Nichols; sisters, Ula Moody and Susan Ovens; and all of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Saturday, August 4 in Kalispell, followed by a celebration of her life at the residence of Clare and Judy Kinyon.
