Blues and barbecue at smoke-off

The annual Stumptown BBQ Smoke Off takes place Aug. 17-19 at Depot Park in Whitefish.

The event features three days of blues, brews and barbecue, hosted by Piggyback BBQ. Piggyback is providing $8,000 in prize money for competitors from Montana, Canada, Oregon and Washington.

The event kicks off Aug. 17 with a concert and dinner. Piggyback BBQ will provide the food;the Dave Walker Band will provide the music.

Evens continue Aug. 18 at 10 a.m., when teams sign in and the health and meat inspections begin. The rest of the weekend’s schedule is as follows:

Aug. 18

• 11 a.m. — Vending begins

• noon to 1 p.m. — Music by Craig Wickham Band

• 12:30 p.m. — Flathead cherry dessert entry

• 1:30-2:30 p.m. — Music by Human Lab

• 2 p.m. — Cooks meeting

• 2:30-4 p.m. — Music by Fresh Off the Vine

• 3 p.m. — Flathead cherry award

• 4 p.m. — Barbecue judge meeting

• 4:30-7 p.m. — Music by Reverend Slanky

• 5 p.m. — Chef’s choice turn in

• 7 p.m. — Hog-calling contest

• 7:30-9:30 p.m. — Music by Kenny James Miller Band

Aug. 19

• 10 a.m. — Judge meeting

• 11 a.m. — Pork butt turn in

• 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Music by Christian Johnson

• noon — Beef brisket turn in

• 12:30 p.m. — Youth Miss Piggy contest

• 1 p.m. — Chicken turn in

• 2 p.m. — Ribs turn in

• 2-2:30 p.m. — Adult Miss Piggy contest

• 3-5 p.m. — Music by Moonshine Mountain

• 5 p.m. — Barbecue competition awards

• 6-7:30 p.m. — Music by Andre Floyd

Admission is $3 a day on Saturday and Sunday, or $5 for both days. For $12, patrons can get in for the entire weekend, including the Friday night concert.

Pets are not allowed at the event.
