Landfill expansion Q & A set

A question-and-answer session about the proposed county landfill expansion will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the landfill office conference room.

Flathead County Public Works Director Dave Prunty and Operations Manager Operations Manager Jim Chilton will be available to talk with landfill neighbors and other interested residents.

As part of the Flathead Solid Waste District Board’s long-range planning, the discussion of land acquisition has drawn plenty of attention since it surfaced at an April meeting. However, the board has made no decision about what land it may purchase or even if it will buy land.

Solid Waste Board members have identified two areas of land for possible acquisition. One site contains 571 acres owned by one family across Prairie View Road from the landfill.

The second 91-acre area involves 14 parcels owned by 14 families adjacent to the landfill’s southwest corner.
